There are no federal laws governing home inspectors. They are regulated only by the individual states. Laws vary from state to state – and some states don’t have any home inspection regulations.

Virginia does not require the licensing of Home Inspectors. It maintains a certification program for Home Inspectors through the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Although certification is voluntary, any inspector who wishes to identify themselves as a "Certified Home Inspector" must complete the state program and requirements.

So how can you be sure that your inspector is qualified, experienced, and trustworthy? One way is by assuring the inspector is a Member of the American Society of Home Inspector's (ASHI),  www.ashi.org.

The American Society of Home Inspector's (ASHI) is the nations oldest, largest and most recognized professional organization for Home Inspector's in North America.   ASHI's Standards of Practice and Code of Ethic's are the most widely recognized standards for the Home Inspection industry.  ASHI membership is an assurance that your inspector has the experience, knowledge and professionalizm that you deserve and is committed to providing supreme customer service.

 ASHI Certified Inspectors are considered the Industry Experts

*Tested

...must have passed the National Home Inspector's Examination to reach Certified Inspector status, the Commonwealth of VA also adopted this exam for State Certification requirements.

*Experienced

...must have performed at least 250 inspections and have verified prior to reaching Certified Inspector status, this far exceeds Virginia State Certification requirements.

*Educated

...must attend at least 20 hours of continuing education each year to maintain ASHI membership,  this exceeds the State of Virginia Certification requirement which requires no continuing education.

*Professional

...ASHI members observe a strict Code of Ethics that demands fairness and impartiality to all parties concerned.  Also prohibits paying or receiving fees for referrals.

* ASHI vs. other associations

...ASHI far exceeds any other home inspector associations. As a word of caution ... many members of the other associations do not measure up to ASHI's minimal requirements for a Certified Inspector .... don't be fooled .... do your homework!
By a substantial margin ASHI is the leader in the industry, attracting the best inspectors, you deserve the best so don't settle for less!

Whether selling or buying you need the peace of mind that a ASHI Certified Inspector can provide.
